Success, just an ice cube
Failure, just melting froth
Honor and dishonor, just water bubbles
Love and hate, just morning dewdrops
Suffering and pleasure, just dreams
Fame and wealth, just shadow of a flying bird
Months and days, just a blink of eyes
Gain and loss, just moonlight on wavering water
The end of life, just a breeze of wind

Ai khổ đau tháng này,
Ai tiền rừng bạc bể,
Ai bát cơm khó đầy,
Ai vinh quang tột đỉnh,
Ai tủi nhục cùng đồ?
Dòng đời cứ trôi, trôi qua mãi,
Năm tháng mang đi, đi kiếp người.
Đâu tá những ai, ai cố giữ,
Còn chăng chỉ thấy một nấm mồ!
Hồ thu nước trong vắt,
Vầng trăng hiện sáng ngời.
Trẻ thơ đua nhau vớt,
Vớt mấy vẫn tay không.
Thôi đừng ngây thơ nữa,
Ngửa mặt nhìn trời trong.
Ô kìa! Vằng vặc trăng đêm vắng,
Đã hết, khổ công nhọc vớt mò.
Nay được thấy trăng, trăng rạng rỡ,
Còn đâu run rẩy lặn tìm trăng!
Anh nếu biết, cuộc đời là thế ấy,
Còn gì đâu vướng bận ở lòng anh.

In case you know such is life
nothing could cling in your mind
Who laughed joyfully in bygone years
Who suffered and pained this month
Who had wealth beyond the dream of avarice
Who were flat broke and hungry
Who got the highest achievement
Who were put in shame and dragged in the mud
River of life flows and flows forever
Years and months sweep away human life
Where are those who tried to grasp on life
Only their tombs are seen here now.
When the lake water is clear in autumn
the underwater moon appears and shines
The youths tried to scoop out the image
and ended up empty-handed
Do not be naïve anymore
Just look up at the sky.
Oh! The moon shines bright in the still of the night
ending your tiredness in the exhaustive search
The bright moon is seen now
