Elements of Reasoning

To assess the quality of any research project or paper, we need to consider the following elements:

1/ Purpose or Goal
clear, relevant, realistic and significant

2/ Questions
clear, relevant, realistic and significant

3/ Data/Information
sufficient, clear, relevant, realistic and significant

4/ Inferences/Interpretations
by which clear, accurate, and relevant conclusions are drawn.

5/ Points of Views
all competing points of views should be identified and fairly addressed.

6/ Assumptions
the major research assumptions should be identified and assessed.

7/ Concepts/Ideas
all key concepts in the research should be clarified and assessed. 

8/ Implications
consider all significant (negative as well as positive) implications/consequences of the research.
