"The Most Effective Way to Get Out Of This Mess is To Educate Ourselves, "Greta Thunberg

The climate and ecological crisis is a crisis of inequality and social injustice. Those who are being affected the most are the ones who have done the least to create the problem. That makes it a moral issue, an issue of social, racial, and intergenerational injustice which involves almost 8 billion people. P. 429 This problem cannot be solved solely by individuals –nor can it be solved without a system change. p.434 What we can do together as a society Educate ourselves Rewild nature Restore nature Plant trees Divest from fossil fuels End all fossil fuel subsidies Make local public transportation free of charge Restore, develop and expand low-carbon public transportation. Subsidize trains Make ecocide a crime Leapfrog to renewable energy. Invest in wind and solar power Leapfrog social norms;move the public discourse on Avoid false solutions Stop both-sidesism. Survival is not a story with two sides. Extinction is not something that should be up for debate Ban high-carbon advertising Create new laws that make polluters pay for the damage they have done What can you do as an individual Educate yourself Become an activist and politically active Defend democracy Talk about it Avoid culture wars and the nedless debates whose primary purpose is to stall the climate and ecological crisis conversation, to create division, and to delay the changes needed. Focus on the full picture Shift towards a plant-based diet Be skeptical about “emissions have decreased” Stay on the ground Buy less and use less The most affected people in the most affected areas must have their voice in the world. Raise your voices and demand what you are owed. Source: The Climate Book (New York, NY: Penguin Press, 2023) by Greta Thunberg
