Ten Statistics to Be Horrified By

1. Trash is America's number one export. 2. The average American singlehandedly produces enough trash in their lifetime to build a Statue of Liberty: over 100 tons of garbage. 3 Ocean garbage patches now occupy 40% of our oceans. 4. By 2025 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. 5. If plastic were a country, it would be the fifth largest producer of carbon emissions. 6. In its history, 8 billion metric tons of plastic have been produced. That's the mass equivalent of 100 Moons. 7. Between now and 2026, global producers are on track to triple plastic production. 8. Microplastics have been found in the ocean, the soil, and the air of the most remote places on Earth. 9. Microplastics have been found in human blood, lungs, breast milk, placenta, and poop. 10.No one yet knows exactly what the health effects of microplastics in the human body will be. (p.vii) To do your best is no longer good enough. We must all do the seemingly impossible.
