On June 23 the KN-951, a Vietnamese patrol ship that was cruising
to protect the Vietnam seas, was surrounded, attacked, and severely damaged
by 4 Chinese ships.
China also used their air crafts (renaissance, and maritime patrols) to
guard their Haiyang Shiyou 981. On June
26 they had at least two air crafts circle near the area of the oil rig (within
12 nautical miles; 1 NM= 1.852 km). Until June 26 Chinese
ships had attacked and damaged 27 Vietnamese coastal guard ships over 100 times,
wounding 15 Vietnamese people on duty aboard.
